Chief Minister Dr. Yadav directed to hire good agencies known for quality work. He told to create a stat- level online quality status dashboard for quality control and monitoring. Along with developing a quality lab, get third party quality audit done. A monitoring cell should be formed to monitor construction works costing more than Rs 50 lakh. He also told to study and take inspiration from the best practices of road construction of other countries and states. He told to discuss with huge organisations working in the field of infrastructure to aid good quality construction work.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav told to follow revenue generation model while taking inspiration from construction organisations like NHI, which will help in defraying the cost of construction work and also generate additional revenue for the government. Similarly, include authority, urban bodies, tourism department, culture department etc. in activities like road construction, building construction and bridge construction etc. in the plan, while working on the concept of overall development. Take necessary suggestions from them and make a plan.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav directed that while making plans for road and building construction, discussions should be held with local representatives and the public. Also take the services of a local consultant who has geographical knowledge. Construction based on such suggestions will provide more convenience and satisfaction to the public.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav inaugurated the booklet Quality Control Manual for Roads and Bridges of the Public Works Department. This manual has been prepared in collaboration with Central Road Research Institute, New Delhi for quality construction of roads suitable to the geographical condition and climate of the state. Detailed guidelines have been given regarding design, construction methodology, inspection commitment and maintenance during the construction of roads and bridges.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav was informed about the departmental structure, number and condition of roads in the state, main projects and works, upcoming projects in the coming year, Central Road and Infrastructure Fund, targets and achievements for the financial year 2023-24, railway over bridge, Building Development Corporation and Road Development Corporation projects and construction of expressway network along with departmental schemes through a presentation.

Public Works Minister Shri Rakesh Singh, Chief Secretary Smt. Veera Rana, Principal Secretary Public Works Shri Sukhveer Singh and concerned departmental officers were present in the meeting.

On this occasion, while discussing on the topic of Curriculum Development and Teaching and Learning, the invited scholars shared their thoughts from the dais. After this, the invited experts brought in light the core issues and the briefing of the program. In the program of 24th July, Professor S.K. Soni, Former Director NITTTR, Bhopal discussed with the faculty on Learning Design for Outcome Based Education. He gave detailed information on Writing Instructional Objectives Course Content and Universal Design for Learning. 50 million people are living in conditions of modern slavery — a 25% rise over the last five years, says a new report. According to it, the Group of 20 nations are contributing to this increase, as their trade operations and global supply chains allow for human rights abuses. Among the G20 nations, India tops the list with 11 million people working as forced labourers, followed by China, Russia, Indonesia, Turkey and the U.S.

Rights group Walk Free Foundation on May 24 released the Global Slavery Index 2023, an assessment of modern slavery conditions in 160 countries. The index uses data released by the International Labour Organisation (ILO), Walk Free, and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) last year to illustrate how “modern slavery is hidden in plain sight”. The data gains significance as India holds the G20 presidency this year, with a focus on sustainable development and climate change mitigation.

Estimates show that 50 million people were living in conditions of modern slavery on any given day in 2021. While there is no singular internationally recognised definition of modern slavery, it includes practices of forced labour, forced marriage, debt bondage, commercial sexual exploitation, human trafficking, slavery-like practices, and the sale and exploitation of children — any situation where threats, violence, coercion and deception prevent a person from refusing or leaving.

The practice has become more prevalent over the last five years, the report shows, as climate change, armed conflict, weak governance and health emergencies like COVID-19 worked to remove a person’s freedom. G20 nations in particular account for more than half of all people living in modern slavery: imports worth $468 billion of at-risk products, including electronics, textiles, palm oil and solar panels, have been shipped from countries with weak worker protection, thus worsening forced labour conditions.

“I think Hollywood could take notice of the stunt community more,” says actor and professional stuntwoman, Michelle Lee, who plays the role of an assassin in the Brad Pitt and Joey King-starring Bullet Train, which is all set to be aired on &flix this weekend.

Talking about the role, the 44-year-old actor, on a video call from California where she is based, says that it is a “super fun role, small but cool. I play a nurse who takes on an assassin.” In many ways, it is similar to the sort of characters she has always essayed, whether as Ada Wong in Resident Evil 6, Mileena in the second season of Mortal Kombat or as Corinne Wan in Marvel’s Venom, roles that employ her stunt and martial art background to the fullest.

In this interview, she talks about the genesis of her stunt career, how Hollywood is more accepting of actors of colour and why stunt actors should be given a slot in the Academy Awards.

You were born and grew up in California. Can you talk a little about how the culture of the place you grew up in played into your own interest in martial arts and acting?

I was born in Long Beach and grew up in South Bay, Torrance area. Growing up in LA, meant you had a lot of friends who were actors. As a kid, I got headshots because all my other friends had them and they all auditioned. That was a thing you do in LA; it was very common. I was extremely shy so my mum put me in acting classes. I really fell in love with the freedom – to have fun, express yourself, not have any kind of rules, just kind of play. That is where I discovered acting and fell in love with it as a kid. It was at the back of my head for years.

After a bad bowling and fielding performance, CSK seemed down and out as GT raked up a record 214-run total. And with just 22 needed from 15 balls to chase down the rain-shortened 171-run target (15 overs), CSK saw Mohammed Shami and Mohit bowl 13 consecutive balls without conceding a boundary.

Unfamiliar territory

While the result wasn’t a surprise, the season was unlike any for CSK. It first had to banish the painful memories from last year when it finished ninth; Jadeja had to be successfully re-integrated after the captaincy fiasco in 2022 and there were injuries galore, including to its top players in Ben Stokes, Deepak Chahar and even Dhoni. And in a departure from the past, it lost three of its seven games at fortress Chepauk.

Yet, CSK devised a way, learning from the tough lessons at home and turning itself into a better-rounded side on the road. Under the umbrella leadership of Dhoni and head coach Stephen Fleming – in place since 2009 – the old hands found sanctuary while the new ones blossomed.

If Jadeja returned reinvigorated, Chahar was made to feel important and given the confidence to play even at “80%”. Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad rampaged attacks at the top; Shivam Dube evolved into a reliable power-hitter; Tushar Deshpande, who had played just seven IPL matches, played 16 this edition and Matheesha Pathirana was plucked out of thin air, literally.

Giving oxygen

The way CSK brought Ajinkya Rahane back to life is a great example of top-notch man-management. When the game had seemingly moved past him, the former India skipper played 14 matches, scoring 326 runs at a strike-rate of 172.49, including a crucial 13-ball 27 in the final.

“We got rid of the tag of him being the guy whom you bat around,” said Fleming. “That had hung over his head a bit too much. He wasn’t in our initial thoughts, but the win against Mumbai was one of our defining wins (by seven wkts) and he was the catalyst behind that (27-ball 61). From there, he was unwavering and positive.”

The victorious season has also helped CSK identify a winning core. Ambati Rayudu, who in his last game for CSK played a neat cameo (19, 8b), will be sorely missed and the club will eventually have to prepare for Dhoni’s retirement. But with a title in the bag, CSK will look ahead with confidence.

“Winning one year and then losing your team is quite an emotional experience,” Fleming said, reminiscing the 2021 triumph and the low point of 2022. “Last year we took a bit of time, just introducing players the CSK way and getting them accustomed to the IPL. Emotionally we were a bit low. [But] this time we had energy around.

“It is very hard to have back-to-back [success]. What you can hope to do is maximise when you have the squad, because in a year’s time, it may all change. It is something we have been in the thereabouts [of], and something that Gujarat [Titans] have also done.”

New Delhi: Political slugfest started in West Bengal soon after the Supreme Court on Thursday lifted the ban on screening of `The Kerala Story` in the state that was imposed by the Mamata government on May 8. Trinamool Congress state general secretary and the party spokesman in West Bengal, Kunal Ghosh said that after the verdict of the apex court of the country the state government does not have any responsibility in the matter. “The state government took the precautionary step to prevent possible tension over the screening of the story. But after the lifting of the ban, the state government does not have any further responsibility,” Ghosh said.

State commerce & industries minister Dr Sashi Panja stated that the chief minister will now decide on the next course of action. “Every chief minister has the right to make decisions which he or she thinks are good for the society,” she said.

Actor-turned-politician and state BJP leader Rudranil Ghosh said that the verdict of the Supreme Court should be an eye-opener for the West Bengal government and it should refrain from taking similar “undemocratic” decisions in the matter.

Nowhere in India there had been reports of tension or violence over the screening of `The Kerala Story`. Even no tension was witnessed in West Bengal in the four days the move was screened. The decision to ban the screening of the movie was a reflection of the ruling party`s appeasement politics,” he said.

Senior state BJP leader and the former national secretary of the party, Rahul Sinha said that being reprimanded by the court of late has become regular with the state`s ruling party. “Better they take lessons from the successive court orders going against them,” Sinha said.

Senior CPI(M) leader Tanmay Bhattacharya said that he agrees that `The Kerala Story` is a propaganda movie full of distortion of fact.

“The motive was directed towards the Left Front government in Kerala. We criticized the contents of the movie but our government in Kerala did not ban the screening of the movie there. This is because we do not believe in banning any work of art. The West Bengal government banned its screening with a political motive,” he said.
